Last year, we began a new pilot study to investigate how extreme high tides are really affecting these secretive marsh birds. We’re putting cameras out during the winter high tides to spy on the rails without disturbing them.

In early February, an intrepid group of nearly 40 members of the Point Blue community began an Antarctic journey that was to be filled with science, adventure, and wonder. Right now, over 40 Point Blue community members and I are somewhere between our homes and Punta Arenas, Chile. Once the entire group has arrived, we’ll take a short flight directly to King George Island in Antarctica where we’ll board The Magellan Explorer.
