Rangeland Watershed Initiative Partner Biologist

As a Partner Biologist for the Rangeland Watershed Initiative in Shasta County, I further the partnership between Point Blue Conservation Science and the USDA’s Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS). Working side-by-side with NRCS staff I build relationships with private landowners to provide technical and financial assistance under NRCS habitat incentive programs with the goal of improving wildlife conservation, watershed health, and habitat quality on rangelands in my county.

I grew up in a small rural community in Central Illinois, among the oak and hickory forests of the Prairie Peninsula. I received both my B.S. and M.S. degrees in Ecology from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, where I studied morphological variation in White-tailed deer in relation to the paleo-environment of the Holocene and pre and post-extirpation populations. Outside of my schooling, I have worked in a diversity of ecological positions across the country, including ecological restoration planning and implementation at a small nature preserve, monitoring vegetation and manipulating hydrology for waterfowl habitat along the Mississippi Flyway, and monitoring vegetation and ecosystem health in several locations throughout western North America. Most recently, I worked for a Native American tribe in California’s Central Valley, where I assisted the tribe in managing their natural resources for tribal needs and wildlife. I first got my start in California working as a Seasonal Biologist for Point Blue in the Rangeland Monitoring Network.
