As we celebrate 60 years of impactful conservation science, we’re looking forward to a more powerfully connected future with all of you. From our bird observatory roots in West Marin County, California beginning on March 18, 1965 to our headquarter move to Petaluma in 2006 to our place on the international conservation stage as an official observer at the UN Climate Conferences starting in 2019, we are proud of what we’ve accomplished and we are grateful to our community for helping us grow along the way. We need each other now more than ever. That’s why we’ve chosen to lean into connection over the next 5 years and beyond.

Science matters. Collaboration is essential. Proactive invitation and shared learning are a must. We invite you to connect with us in six ways to celebrate six decades of conservation:
Act, Celebrate, Dream, Give, Learn, and Restore.

Act

There are many ways for us to act individually and in community to protect nature and further conservation action. Here are just a couple:

Make your voice heard.

Communicate often with your congressional representatives and tell them to support the conservation efforts. You can find your Representatives and their contact information here and your Senators here. Sometimes you will find form letters from us on specific issues but there are also general guides available such as this one from the UC Berkely Library.

Be a Community Scientist.

Join fellow community scientists and take part in the Pacific Flyway or Intermountain West Shorebird Survey and count birds to track change and inform policy. Keep an eye on our volunteer and events pages for more opportunities.

Celebrate

Connecting for Conservation: Honoring Point Blue’s 60th Anniversary

Restore

One of the most powerful ways to connect with nature and community is through community-based habitat restoration. Point Blue is a leader in design, monitoring, and implementation through our six decades of collaboration and the award-winning STRAW or Students and Teachers Restoring A Watershed, a program of Point Blue since 2011.

Ongoing involvement

If you’d like to be involved in restoring habitats on an ongoing basis, become a volunteer with our Novato Baylands team. Send an email to novatobaylands@pointblue.org to learn what’s involved and when trainings happen.
