Ever since a childhood spread across four states with unique cultures and diverse ecosystems, I have been intrigued by interactions within the natural world, no matter how wild or developed. I developed a keen interest in avian ecology around the age of 18—after graduating with an undergraduate degree in Wildlife Science, I spent 10 years studying avian ecology in California, Oregon, and Alaska before joining Point Blue in 2012. Since then, my career has focused on advancing the conservation of migratory shorebirds and their habitats.
My work strives to better balance the needs of humans and healthy ecosystems. My work includes researching the impacts of dynamic habitat availability on migratory shorebirds to support conservation of working landscapes as part of the Migratory Bird Conservation Partnership, assisting with monitoring of Western Snowy Plovers at Monterey Bay, California to support conservation of sandy beach and dune ecosystems, and coordinating the Pacific Flyway Shorebird Survey (part of the Migratory Shorebird Project) and the Intermountain West Shorebird Survey to support international climate-smart partnerships.
