Soil Conservation Scientist
As a Soil Conservation Scientist, I specialize in assessing soil health and carbon monitoring to understand how ecosystem health is influenced by different land management practices, both above and belowground. My work consists of a combination of field days implementing carbon monitoring on farms and ranches, soil processing in the lab, and office days for data processing.
My journey into soil science was profoundly shaped by my childhood spent on my family’s organic vegetable farm in rural Humboldt County. These early experiences ignited a passion for soil conservation and set me on a path toward a career dedicated to utilizing natural systems in our ecosystem to mitigate climate change impacts and support ecosystem resilience. In 2024, I received my B.S. in Molecular Environmental Biology with a concentration in Ecology and a minor in Geospatial Information Science & Technology from UC Berkeley. My expertise lies in biogeochemistry, and I have worked on multiple independent and collaborative research projects investigating soil carbon, nitrogen, and methane cycles in peatlands and wetlands within California. During my time at UC Berkeley, I worked for the Department of Chemistry and the Silver Lab, investigating the drivers of heterogeneity in agricultural soil nitrous oxide and methane emissions.
Currently, I reside in the East Bay and am often found at the Point Blue Petaluma headquarters. In my free time, I enjoy hanging out by the river and beach, foraging for mushrooms and bones, and eating food with my friends.
