Technical Product Manager
As Technical Product Manager for the Ecoinformatics team, I am responsible for working with our partners in the Avian Knowledge Network to bring all of their bird observation data into the Point Blue Science cloud, as well as helping to maintain, modernize, and upgrade our systems.
Growing up in the Chicago suburbs, I was fascinated with weather, which led to me getting B.S. and M.S. degrees in Atmospheric Science at Cornell University and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, respectively. After school, I spent 14 years as a meteorologist at an air quality consulting firm, where I found my professional passions lay in both database development and management, and applying science to real-world problems. I had the opportunity to work with private entities and city, state, federal, and international agencies across the U.S., Mexico, China, and South America, providing database development and support, data analysis, air quality forecasting services, as well as in-person and virtual training on all of these topics. Concurrent to my “day job”, I taught introductory meteorology courses at Santa Rosa Junior College for several semesters.
I left the consulting world to spend the next seven years to work as a Business Intelligence/SQL developer for a bank where I focused on furthering my technology skill set, managing a complex system of in-house and third-party database integrations to meet internal reporting and nightly data warehouse ETL needs, and implementing automated, scalable processes to simplify and speed up code development and deployment. While I did enjoy my work there, I really missed being in the science world, so I jumped at the opportunity to apply my skills here at Point Blue. I am thrilled to be back working with a team with whom I can happily geek out about the environment!
In my free time, I volunteer at Guide Dogs for the Blind, and serve as a board member for both the Santa Rosa Figure Skating Club and the Healdsburg Community Band. In addition, I am a competitive figure skater, and enjoy road biking, hiking, downhill skiing, playing my flute, and catering to the whims of my incredibly spoiled, but adorable, rescue dog, Little John. You can find me – and LJ! – in the Petaluma office.
