STRAW Founder and Ambassador
Since 1998, I have worked and continue to work with our STRAW Team to facilitate STRAW (Students and Teachers Restoring A Watershed), an award-winning restoration science education program for K-12 students and teachers.
In 1992, I was teaching fourth grade at Brookside School in San Anselmo, CA, when my students began the Shrimp Project, a project designed to help save an endangered species through restoration and public outreach. The Shrimp Project eventually turned into the STRAW Project, a project of Point Blue Conservation Science.
I have my M.S. in Education from Dominican University and am the author of The California Freshwater Shrimp Project: An Example of Environmental Project-Based Learning. My favorite compliment from teachers is: “STRAW makes it easy for me!” My favorite complement from students about restoration is: “It was hard, but it was fun.”
