Max Taylor

Community Science Coordinator

I’m involved in several Point Blue projects, the first of which includes participating in and supervising seabird and marine mammal population and breeding surveys along the central coast of California. This role involves recruiting, training, and managing my local team of volunteer citizen scientists as we survey California Sea Lions, Black Oystercatchers, Pigeon Guillemots, cormorants, and other ecological indicator species. Additionally, I’m engaged in monitoring the Least Tern and Snowy Plover populations at Vandenberg Space Force Base, particularly in relation to the disturbances caused by rocket launches.

Having grown up on the central coast of California, birdwatching has been one of my greatest passions for as long as I can remember. I’ve been actively involved in bird species monitoring programs and conservation initiatives since I was nine, and I continue to learn more every day. Ten years later here I am. I hope to continue this work and make meaningful contributions to the natural world and how society interacts with it. I’m currently a full-time biology student at Cuesta College and plan to major in evolutionary ecology and biodiversity after completing my first two years here.

I also enjoy fixing up my old Volvo 245 wagon, playing beach volleyball, and spending time with friends.
